Dakota Honey Company started out as a family owned operation in Michigan. Things were a little tough there, so the original owners studied maps and decided that south central South Dakota was the best place to move.
They relocated their entire business by train to Winner, South Dakota.

Although it had been a risky decision, it turned out to be the best one they could have made. They went on to have a successful business for over 50 years and then sold the company to today’s owner’s father and two other partners who ran the bee farm for 30 years until current owner, Zach Pederson, was old enough to start taking over his share of the business.

Zach has a strong passion for beekeeping and has tried various areas of it. He has been a part of honey production in South Dakota and pollination in California. After getting more involved in the industry Zach saw the opportunity to personally deliver high quality South Dakota honey through Dakota Honey Company.

Today Dakota Honey Company’s bees are located in South Central South Dakota. This area is uniquely diverse. It has a mixture of clover, alfalfa, sunflowers and various wildflowers. This makes for a very light-colored, sweet honey that most people say is some of the best honey they've ever tasted.

making high quality honey

Dakota Honey Company doesn’t do anything special to their honey. They simply take care of their bees and give them the fuel they need to make their liquid gold. From there, the honey goes straight from their hives into the bottles that are sold to customers. No filtering or blending. Just honey the way it should taste.
